I used oversaturated acrylic paint on watercolor paper and let it dry to take up a form. After it dried, I scanned it and used Adobe Illustrator to create outlines and textures that I saw take shape in the dried paint. I then used color overlay filters to bump up a few key pieces to make them stand out more, and finally used a few brushes I created to add texture and movement.

I chose disgraced human rights violator and notable racist, former sheriff Joe Arpaio; as well as a quote from his interview on a prison he created. After initial sketches I used acrylic paint on watercolor paper to create his head and added texture with a toothbrush, then scanned it in and traced the image with Adobe Illustrator. The type at the base of the bust is Times Roman printed out, traced, and scanned back in so it creates a less mechanical feel to a fairly organic piece.
